Getting Started With Square Cash -

To open a Square Cash account, you can enter either your mobile number or email—you don't have to have a mobile number.

Next you have to enter a debit card number, and then choose a name for your $Cashtag—more on those later.

Finally, and optionally, you can invite friends to sign up, netting you a $5 reward for each one who does.

You can now connect a credit card as a payment source as well, but, as with other mobile payment services, you pay a 3 percent fee when paying that way. Note that Square Cash is a US-only service. If you need to pay across borders in multiple currencies, look to the PayPal app or to Xoom.

On the account page, a single slider offered to let me require FaceID to transfer money—a good idea. You can also set up a Cash.me/$Cashtag, which lets people pay you via web browser at that web address, where "Cashtag" is replaced by a nickname you choose.

for example mine is: Cash.me/$bznesmn if you'd like to send me $5 :0)

Using Square Cash

Square Cash has one of the simplest, most effective interfaces I've seen in any such app. It's really just a big numeric keypad with buttons at the bottom for requesting and sending money, and at the top for seeing your account details (a head-and-shoulders icon) and transaction history (a clock).

The Cash app lets you send up to $250 within a 7-day period and receive up to $1,000 per 30-day period. If you add more verification, such as a social security number, the limits increase. When someone pays you, you can either keep the money in your Square account, or you can enable Auto Cash Out in Settings, which dumps the money straight to your connected ATM bank account.

Hashtag $Cashtag

Square Cash's big attempt to differentiate itself is through the unfortunately named $Cashtag system. Every Square Cash user is assigned a personal $Cashtag. People can send money directly to Square Cash users through their $Cashtag URL alone without asking for email addresses or phone numbers. Users can even make their $Cashtag public so anyone can send them money, like, say, a donation. $Cashtags are a neat idea, even if they do seem contrived, but their premise only works if the service catches on, which still hasn't happened in a big way.

Security

Square states that it is certified as PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) Level 1, which is the same security used by major credit cards. Nevertheless, it's a good idea to make sure that you enable the Security Lock using FaceID or TouchID on the iPhone or whatever biometric authentication your Android phone uses. You may also think twice about broadcasting your $Cashtag widely, too, since scams have been known to occur in which bad guys put money in your account and then try to reclaim it by nefarious means.

Pros Simple, clear interface and setup. Works with Bluetooth LE to find nearby payees. Lets you cancel payments. Can automatically deposit money into your bank account.

Cons Doesn't work in web stores or at points of sale. Low daily payment limits. Not as widely used as competitors. Doesn't work with Square point of payment devices.

Bottom Line Square Cash is a refreshingly straightforward platform for sending and receiving money, but you can't use it to pay stores. The simplicity that makes it attractive also limits its usefulness.

However if you're looking to make some extra income on the side its very simple. 50 Friends of yours who are willing to test it out and download it has a nice return of $250.
